Why Nangan
Nangan is the political and economic center of Taiwan's Matsu Islands, just off the coast of mainland China. Half a century ago it was a Cold War front line. Many small islands and peripheral communities now face what Nangan met early: an unbalanced population, geographic isolation, and high costs of staying connected.
We treat this experience as evidence, not scenery. Questions that small places meet first can help the world rethink education, livelihood, care, belonging, and the freedom of a place to shape its own future.

Three acts

Routes and Returns
How can education widen a person's horizons without erasing the value of home?
Making Life Flow
Where resources drain away, what businesses, housing experiments, and care networks let life move from barely getting by to thriving and renewing itself?
Shaping the Current
Matsu's fate was once set by armies and pulled by tourism trends. When people choose to stay, how does a community move from adapting to outside change to designing its own direction?
Adventures
TEDxNangan Adventures are our year-round community gatherings between annual conferences. If the main stage is where Matsu's experience becomes a question for the world, Adventures are where the question returns to everyday life small, recurring, and held in real places. Through exhibition walkthroughs, salons, and conversations, we meet the people and works transforming this island. We believe a place is not merely a subject to be introduced, but a starting point for asking questions.

Curatorial and organizational leadership
TEDxNangan is developed through three complementary practices rooted in Matsu. Ming-Chun Hsieh, Licensee & Lead Organizer, designs the organizational and intergenerational learning system. Chiang, Lin, Curator & Strategy Lead, shapes the questions, narrative architecture and curatorial journey. Liu Chia-Kuo, Local Co-organizer & Community Lead, grounds the platform in local knowledge and civic dialogue. Together, their work in architecture, education, place-based cultural practice and community life informs this platform. TEDxNangan remains an independently organized TEDx event.
